What a beautiful day for an outdoor activity.
Leanna O’Grady from Mud Creek, the outreach program of our Columbia County Soil & Water District, led us in an exploration of birds and migratory reasons and patterns. She had an exciting game after the introductory discussion which involved about 13 stations. Each kid was a bird, at each station they had to read and do what it said. One kid I asked to describe what happened said they were a peregrine falcon and didn’t make it back as they had been shot by a hunter. Another kid made me guess what they were (they had successfully migrated). It really was wonderful to see the kids learn about our amazing world and have fun doing it.
