Fall Foliage Walk at Powell Wildlife Sanctuary
Saturday October 2, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 pm
FreeEnjoy a companionable Fall Foliage Walk at the Wilson M. Powell Wildlife Sanctuary in Old Chatham with leaders from “Enhancing Life, Increasing Knowledge (ELIK),” the adult learning program for seniors of the North Chatham Free Library. There is no charge to join the walk but pre-registration is required.
Two levels of walks are available. One is a moderate uphill hike on an uneven wooded path to Dorson’s Rock. The view from Dorson’s Rock offers panoramic views across the Hudson Valley to the distant Catskill Mountains and Albany. This hike includes some rock faces, especially at the top, and will take about one hour roundtrip, including ample time to take photographs.
The second walk is on flat grassy terrain with some uneven spots through meadows to Reilly Pond. This easier walk usually offers good views of waterfowl and takes about 40 minutes round trip, including ample time to look for birds and take photos.
The preserve, protected by the Columbia County Land Conservancy, is owned by the Alan Devoe Bird Club and provides a great deal of natural diversity in approximately 145 acres. No dogs are allowed. Directions to the Sanctuary will be emailed when registration is received.
This hike is part of the library’s “Wellness4 Us” series which features sessions on how seniors can live a long and happy life in Columbia County.
To register, email [email protected].
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Fund for Columbia County of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation as well as funding from the Bank of Greene County. The library is grateful for this support.
